UPDATE:
The best Way to get LIVEOUT ( new Procedure )
1. Turn on your GOPRO
2. Plug in your Videokabel ( Gopro switch in Playmode )
3. After a few Seconds Plug in the MiniUSB, ( Gopro switch to Liveout )
4. Insert your SD Card
5. Remove MiniUSB
6. HAVE FUN
The reason:
When i got ready one nice videotake in the past i had switched of the Gopro.
If i want to make another
take later with the same SD Card, i had to wait after the LIVEOUT procedure until the first take was played, bevor i could make the next record.
Thats the reason in the past, that i used always a clean SD Card for eatch take, so i was able to record immediately.
But now, i go the new way is written on top.
So there can by a lot of records on the SD Card and i´m able to record immediately.
( Old Procedure )
You only need a mini USB Plug with a Battery neerly 5V
( as exampel 3 aa Battery ), to switch in Live-View-Mode
With CLEAN SDcard:
1.Insert a empty SD-Card, turn the GOPRO on
2.Videocabel in, ( Gopro switch to Playmode )
3.After a few Seconds Plug in the MiniUSB, ( Gopro switch to Liveout )
4.Remove MiniUSB
5.HAVE FUN
Because i dont like to wait till my 16 GB SD card is full, i tested with a small 250MB SD Card.
After 2m44s a message appeared on my Live-View-Archos-Monitor, that the SD-Card is full now, end recording.
After that message, the LIVE-OUT is working for 5 Minutes.
Than the GOPRO turns off.
I have testet the Video-File from the SD-Card, its allready finalized , usefull and nice quallity.
At last i made a test with the 16 GB SD-Card.... after 45 minutes i have finished this record... in the meantime the LIVE-OUT was in progress, allways working.
EDIT: i made another Test:
What happens, when the LIVE-OUT-PLUG lost connection....???
NOTHING!
You can trigger it while Live-Out is on, how often you want... the Live-Out and the recording is always in progress.
EDIT: bevor i left my house, i start a new test with live-out and recording on my 16GB SD-Card.
After 44minutes and 4GB, the recording ends, and the gopro start automaticly a new record.
Also after 4GB it ends, and a new record was started, and so on...
Now i have 4 files, all finalized.
After the SD-Card was full, Gopro shut off after 5 minutes.
But you can go to the GOPRO FunktionMenü and disable the AUTO SHUT DOWN after x minutes.
Then your Gopro will be online untill the Lipopack is empty.
The capacity of the Gopro Lipo was at 50% after that all.... certainly by a room temperature at 24 degree.
I don´t now the recordtime outside at minus 15 degree.
So i like to say: feel free to put a big sice SD-Card in your Gopro and have fun.
But take care for your action period, the Lipo is very lousy if it´s could outside.
( use at your own risk, no liability for damages )

Really Great Setup!
You guys helped me out!
Actually i have one question left! When i take the USB off my live out fails.
As u told, does the usb need to have some voltage on it still ?
Thank you!!!
Hey Sunny.
I understand you use the Gopro Hero for recording footage while you have a live wireless transmission going on. We’re planning to do some crazy live video with the Gopro Hero in a waterslide and wanna send it live to a HD Video beamer. Can you tell me which equipment you use to send and recieve the signal live.
It really has been a pain in the ass finding a semi professional solution that is relatively water resistant.
Thank you,
Tobi
I have the same problem here. When I take off the USB the live out fails and GOPRO is not recording anymore.
Anyone has a solution to that?
thank you,
mattk
I think you can test what is hapend, when you load the Gopro Battery absolut full befor you try the liveout hack.
In the past, my Gopro shows the same mailfunktion as yours, if the Battery was only half full.
Cheers

it was the half full GOPRO battery.
now it works.
I contacted GoPro because of the firmware update released on 17th of may
(which they announced should include the live-out update – but it did not)
that’s what they wrote me 2 days ago:

Thank you for contacting GoPro!
We originally anticipated the firmware to be released May 17th, 2010 however we encountered a few bugs at the last minute. We will try to release it as soon as possible.
